Steel Siding - Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Do I need to tear off my existing siding before residing?
Answer: No, you don’t have to tear off your existing siding but you do need to make sure that the existing siding is in good condition and will hold nails. Have your contractor check your existing siding and make a recommendation during the bidding phase of the project.

Question: How does the cost of steel siding compare to other siding?
Answer: Although steel siding may cost more initially it should save you money over the life of your home. Our steel siding is coated with a premium PVC coating that is very durable and is formulated to withstand the heat of the southern states and the cold of the northern climates. The baked on PVC finish means that you won’t have to paint your home every 5-8 years.

Question: Can I change the color of my siding if I want?
Answer: Yes, the baked on PVC coating that we use on our siding provides an excellent base on which to put a quality latex paint. This would allow you to refinish your siding to a different color of your choice.

Question: Can my new steel siding be damaged by hail?
Answer: Yes, larger hailstones can dent your steel siding but it is much more resilient to damage than other sidings. Additionally, your steel siding is backed by a Lifetime limited warranty with a 50-year limited hail protection warranty.

Question: Do I need to clean my steel siding?
Answer: In most residential areas normal rainfall is sufficient to keep the siding surfaces clean but we do recommend that the siding be washed annually or more often if conditions demand. Please refer to the back of the warranty for more information.

Question: Will my siding fade?
Answer: While any product may fade under certain conditions your new steel siding in covered by a Lifetime Non-Prorated Limited warranty that includes Fade Protection. The PVC coating that we use on our siding is one of the most advanced coating systems available today and has excellent color retention properties.

Question: Do you have soffit and gutters that match my siding?
Answer: Yes, we have steel roofing, gutters, soffit and fascia in colors to match or compliment your steel siding. Ask you dealer for a color selector guide to see the colors and availability of these products. We also carry a complete line of shutters, louvers, vents and other decorative accent items.

Question: Do you offer more than one profile?
Answer: Yes, we have one of the largest selections in the industry. We manufacture a 8” clapboard siding, Double 4” clapboard siding, Double 5” Dutchlap siding and a 12” Vertical siding.

Question: What if I have a problem with my siding?
Answer: If you feel that you have a problem please contact our Customer Service department by mail, phone or electronically. The Customer Service department will then determine what caused the problem and then come up with a solution to the problem.

Question: Will my siding still be available if we add-on to our home in a couple of years?
Answer: While we can’t guarantee that all products will be available in the future we can tell you that since we started manufacturing steel siding that we have not discontinued a color or profile from our offering. We have been manufacturing steel siding continuously longer than any other manufacturer in the market place today.
