Care & Maintenance
For over 75 years EDCO has continued to innovate and manufacture the highest quality products that withstand the forces of Mother Nature. While all of our products carry the most comprehensive warranty in the industry, here are a few tips that will help ensure your home or business will always look like new.
Siding:
- Annual washing with a mild detergent is recommended to maintain the original finish appearance of factory finished building panels. Mild solution of household soap and water will usually
produce the desired results. Either of the following solutions are recommended.
- One cup of Tide or other common non-abrasive detergent which contains less than 0.5% phosphate, dissolved into five gallons of water; or,
- One cup of household ammonia dissolved into five gallons of room temperature water.
- Try to clean the siding on a cool, cloudy day or when the siding is cool. Clean a small area at a time. Clean the material starting at the bottom and working your way up to the top.
- Power wash the entire house to remove any cobwebs, surface dirt or other items.
- Apply the cleaner mixture to the siding with a hand sprayer
- Take a soft bristle brush and rub the siding with a firm stroke.
- Thoroughly rinse off the cleaner mixture with the power washer and clear water.
It is recommended that you “test clean” a small area to be certain that satisfactory results are achieved with whatever combination of cleaning solutions and procedures you use before starting on the entire area of the building.
We discourage the use of deicing salts near your EDCO siding. Deicing salts can permanently damage your siding and void your manufacturer warranty. EDCO suggests the use of either gravel or sand to manage conditions that would normally require the use of deicing salts near the siding.
CAUTION: Stronger concentrations of cleaners can cause damage to the finish. Rinse the surface well with the clean water immediately after cleaning. Avoid skin contact or getting the solution in the eyes. Always wash the house from the bottom to the top and keep rinsing thoroughly with fresh water while cleaning.
CAUTION: Care needs to be taken with pressure washing. A high enough pressure at close range can damage the finish. We recommend that you use a soft bristle brush and a low pressure of water when cleaning your EDCO siding.
